Gardening grew leaps and bounds in 2020 and it is not slowing down! Continued work from home trends, strong home sales, and a continued interest in gardening itself point at continued growth for the months ahead.

According to Bonnie Plants’ CEO, Mike Sutter, as a nation we went from 42 million gardeners to 63 million in the past year, and Sutter believes these newbies will be back in 2021.

1. Grow Your Own

An increased interest in gardening is notably one of the largest trends of 2020. Whether it is a garden plot, raised garden beds, or simply growing herbs and vegetables in pots on an urban balcony, the grow your own trend will remain strong this year.

2. Alfresco Dining

When the weather warms up, outdoor dining is immediately on the menu! The National Kitchen and Bath Association’s 2020 Report, announced that an astonishing 76% of project completed this year were outdoor kitchens. The last year has encouraged us to make the most out of our outdoor spaces. With the rise of outdoor cooking, comes the rise of outdoor dining.

3. Trending Terrariums

Terrariums are trending now and for good reason. Requiring very little work (no green thumb required), these self-sustaining gardens make a beautiful addition to any home.

4. Eye-Catching Containers

2021 will see a boost in container gardening This is great news for those with smaller spaces or not a lot of time on their hands. Container gardening is a fun and simple way to add instant character to your space. The more color the better. Bright, bold colors are always on trend for the summer.

We’ve all grown increasingly tired of our own four walls. One of the biggest trends for 2021 is bringing the indoors outside. Think beautiful outdoor textiles such as pillows, throws, and rugs!
